Mentor
Ohana |
Mentor Ohana is a core
project of Kahuna Valley and a unique solution for
any organization or community interested in starting
a new mentoring program... or hoping to enhance one
that is already in place. Taking advantage of over
25 years experience in teaching, mentoring, and organizing
activities, Francesco Garripoli has led the non-profit
Kahuna Valley organization team and developed a set
of online tools to assist in the development of a mentor
program management system designed for the needs of
the 21st Century. |

Under our main "ohana" (the
Hawaiian word for 'family') we have both the "Kaua'i
Career
& Vocational Teen Mentoring Program" - a life-skills-based
program to help teens through a unique approach
that utilizes powerful, custom online tools that graphically
track key markers in each participating youth and mentor
over the course of their involvement. The online software
provides journaling tools, internal and safe email communication,
interactive calendars to manage meetings and activities,
administrative tools, database management and more. The
main project the youth work on is the Mentor Ohana Teen
Radio Series, which will air on public radio and in podcasts.
Another program in the "ohana" is the "Children
of Prisoners" mentoring program by Kaua'i Team Challenge.
Mason Chock and his team will be adding a program for
at risk youth soon. These mentoring programs are
now under the umbrella of Mentor Ohana and working in
the community on the garden island of Kaua'i, Hawaii.
They are the beginning of what we hope to see spread
throughout the nation. |
